Apple’s iOS 8 went live yesterday, and a swarm of iPhone users couldn’t wait to eagerly download the iOS 8 update and play with it on the first day.
However, these users might need to start thinking about better security, because more social features and more personal data will be added to the new iOS update. Especially considering the recent issues about 99 celebrities’ nude photos leaked online, the most needed feature for Apple customers is an enhanced security feature to protect their identities.
Fortunately, this feature has been (finally!) released by Apple—the Two-step verification for Apple ID and iCloud, a feature that has long been used by users of many technology companies, including Google, Facebook, and Twitter.
As Apple describes, “Two-step verification is an additional security feature for your Apple ID that's designed to prevent anyone from accessing or using your account, even if they know your password.” This means that two-step verification requires you to verify your identity using one of your devices before you can sign into Apple ID to manage your account, sign in to iCloud on a new device or at iCloud.com, make App Store purchases from a new device, or get Apple ID related support from Apple.
A piece of advice to Apple users: enable the Two-Step verification for your Apple ID and iCloud now while you update your iOS. This might be a saving-your-life trick to prevent hackers from stealing your private information.
The instructions for setting up Two-step verification for Apple ID is here.
